Clipper Lightning 1854
Hurtling down the ocean’s highways, famous clipper ships made record passages to Canton and Sydney. Rounding Cape Horn while braving furious gales and storms. They passed by lands originally called Terra Incognita. Their records of passage have been documented and their names are legendary. Traditionally built from hollowed out, stacked planks of alternating color wood. Half models are highly collectible and make beautiful home décor.
During the 19th century, shipwrights created exact scale half hull models, a construction plan for a ship’s hull design and its particular curvature “sheer”. These were mounted and displayed in admiralty and shipping offices, and now sell at auction as decorative nautical art.
