Once a year in Hong Kong there is an incredible event, a 24 hour pedalcar race to raise money for charity. The cars are very high tech, carbon fiber, titanium, wind tunnel tested, and very expensive, up to $60,000 U.S. They are funded by corporations, and manned by teams of volunteers who prepare by running, biking, and spending hours in simulators to build up their endurance. During the race, team members take turns in the car, and yes, they do it for 24 hours straight.
This year, Mitch and I were able to attend, and had a really great time! The event starts with a procession of a local school marching band followed by the parade of cars. Then it is off to the races.
Some of the cars are very seriously built for speed, and some are much more whimsical. Check out the videos and youll see what I mean. I hope you enjoy them. |
